Sara Stroud is a filmmaker and artist based in Aberdeen, Scotland. For the past 21 years, she has balanced raising a family with lecturing in Media. Her true passion lies in documentary filmmaking, and she aspires to pursue this full-time in the future. Sara graduated in Painting from Edinburgh Art School and holds an MA in Digital Moving Image from Guildhall University.
Her creative work draws inspiration from lived experiences and human connections. She blends prose with performance and often uses her phone to create her films. Her work explores themes of womanhood, archetypes, and the role of technology in our lives. Sara also delves into the relationships between people and places, including the virtual spaces where we navigate, connect, and sometimes (dis)connect. Recent documentary films have highlighted local issues surrounding Aberdeen’s Energy Transition Zone and a reflective film on the future of Aberdeen without the fossil fuel industry.
“Keep Dreaming Mummy,” takes a satirical look at money—a topic many avoid discussing. The film reflects on the financial challenges she has faced as a single parent during the cost of living crisis. Through the lens of commodification in an increasingly transactional world, Sara humorously explores what she would do for money. The film is available for £1750, a sum that would cover her overdraft, or alternatively, viewers can commission her to create a film.
