STRANGERS in a STRANGE LAND IV and DEPARTURES are from a series of acrylic paintings on canvas around the theme of people in flight from their homeland. These disposed or persecuted souls are seeking better lives in a new land. The works suggest images alluding to past experiences - and an uncertain but hopeful future yet to be unfolded.

Themes are developed initially from random sketchbook drawings and pieces of text, juxtaposed with autographic marks. They are unplanned, have only a small starting point and are allowed to go where they will.

They often refer to the landscape of the west of Scotland.

The pictures are part of a wider body of work under the general working title of Series of Dreams.
