Man with Closed Eyes is a portrait of my father. It is at once reflective and reflection. The act conjures the Heideggerian notions of ‘dasein’, being there, while also being impossibly removed. The piece seeks to render this negotiation through a non-hierarchical lens that affords equal scrutiny to all elements, and by extension embracing the finitude of the figures presence.

It is these still moments of quiet contemplation that are of greatest interest in my work, these moments of intense reflection in the vivid reality of the present.
