Adamson reproduces the images of the flowers at her mother’s deathbed in 2016. Flowers were not permitted at Little France but the nurses welcomed Betty’s last freesias, which bloomed and even as they passed, maintained a beauty. The materiality and faded colour of the Polaroids evoke another time, and play with a sense of mystery and emotional warmth, underlining the fragility of memory. This is not a disrespectful act but, on the contrary, it enables Adamson to develop the digital record of the event into something more evocative of the experience. This print is priced unframed.
