Claire Ward

My sculptures are provoked by a host of found objects that I have collected and sometimes kept for many years before they grow and alter in my hands to become something else. It is increasingly important to me to keep my art low-tech. I use the human discards that litter our landscape, mixed with a variety of upcycled materials, in the hope of treading a little more lightly on the Earth. In the making of the sculpture, I enjoy exploring the difference between the manmade and natural and to imagine a merging of them.

What Goes Around Comes Around began life as a tyre wall found on a beach in Northumberland after what looked like a long adventure in the sea. It seemed to make a connection with my other piece shown here.
