Alexandra Roddan’s paintings take you with her in experiencing a walk through the streets of different cities. The shapes, textures, colours and geometry of the buildings, structure, sky, people and transportation inform the marks she makes. Colour is key to encapsulating the feeling and atmosphere of a place. The paintings are of densely layered forms, popping up and below one another thus creating the structure and chaos of city life. The paintings capture the whole human experience of city life not visible in a photograph. Roddan translates her own direct experiences; the smells, taste, and noise in a way that a camera cannot.
