Susie Johnston is a Perth based visual artist working across the disciplines of painting, sculpture and installation. Susie was based in Sydney between 1989-2000 where she lived and worked, studying painting then a Master of Visual Arts at Sydney College of the Arts. She returned to Scotland in 2000 and continued with her practice as an artist, returning to study an MFA & humanities in 2014 at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design. Susie is a WASPS studio tenant in Perth and is currently a post-graduate researcher and part-time lecturer at DJCAD. She is materially supported for her research by Binn Group, one of Scotland’s largest waste resource companies.
The question ‘what do objects do?’ reflects Susie’s belief that matter is both lively and porous. Inspired by speculative realism and object-orientated-ontology Susie re-evaluates relationships between human and more-than-human worlds resulting in a deeper engagement with and respect for the material support system in which she is entangled.
