Can't see the wood or the trees, 2025
Mel’s art practice is centred around her fascination with nature. She responds to our fundamental interconnection with other species and her own dis-ease at the ongoing loss of diversity and wilderness. She is influenced by the work of women such as Donna Haraway, Anna Lowenhaupt Tsing and Ursula K Le Guin. To unpick her ecological thoughts and emotions she walks, she documents, she makes, and then she paints. The images produced are familiar yet unsettling and they invite the viewer to take a moment to ponder their own entanglement with the ‘other’.
