WILLOW, 2023
The artist: I am a stonecarver and lettercutter working in Perthshire. I started my business 30 years ago and am endlessly fascinated by the qualities of stone – slate, sandstone and granite. These 2 pieces WILLOW and CHESTNUT were created as part of a series where I carved natural elements onto fine-grained Welsh slate and picked out part of the carving with gold leaf. The CHESTNUT panel was inspired by a blanket of leaves from the floor of the wood and the WILLOW is an ordered version of the natural form of its leaves.
