Paulina Sandberg

Paulina Sandberg (Sweden/Scotland) trained at Edinburgh College of Art and works across sculpture, drawing, digital media and printmaking. With a playful approach to materials and techniques, and a focus on texture and tactility, her work reflects an interest in the natural environment and social conditioning, making sense of traditions and gender roles in an evolving social landscape. Her practice is centred around how we gain knowledge about ourselves and our surroundings through visceral experience and structural influence. Recent work in sculpture explores themes of body image, objectification and desire associated with maternity and child birth.

The print “Lichen beach” is taken from a series of work initiated at an artist residency on the Greek island of Evia, exploring expectations of belonging and solitude connected to motherhood and migration. The project grew to include printmaking, photography and drawing installations.
