A grotesque clay mask over an individual’s-portrait why?
How does it make you feel?
What does it make you think?
Social Issues : the Mental health stigma of feeling the need to mask and hide your true identity for fear of what people may say, or what you may say.
Masking and coerced into your shell in an abusive relationship pretending all is well.
Feeling uncomfortable to show your real self and hiding, masking - your gender preferences, your religion, your ethnic background, your disabilities.
How does it make you feel - grotesque, worthless, exhausted constantly masking and suppressing your real self to fit in.
How many people are masking? How many are feeling excluded, unsupported and feel uncomfortable to express themselves freely?
How does it make you feel……hiding behind your mask of indifference?
"Masking 2" is a continuation of the masking theme portrayed in the 2025 Masking artwork by VIRIDIAN STARSHIP. It is meant to disturb and provoke thought about why people in our society have learnt to mask their true selves. It is a mixed media work. The acrylic portrait painting is over placed with a clay mask, a symbolic malleable substance that can be pushed and pulled in different directions as required. Tape used to signify the difficulty in keeping the mask in place.
