Svenja Landsiedel

Born in 1999 in Germany, Svenja Landsiedel is currently pursuing a diploma in Fine Arts at HfBK Dresden under the guidance of Prof. Christian Macketanz (expected graduation 2026). She previously studied Experimental Design at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hannover (2019-2023). During her Erasmus year at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, Scotland (2021-2022), Svenja was shaped by the exploration of materiality, influenced by Derrick Guild and Michael Agnew, which deepened her artistic practice.

Throughout her studies, Svenja has worked with a variety of techniques and materials, including a series of works created on plasterboards. She primarily focuses on monotype printmaking, applying it to cotton fabric. What fascinates her about this technique is the uncertainty and chance that arises between her creative concept and the process itself. The act of drawing in reverse and not being able to immediately see the result creates a sense of surprise and immediacy that shapes her work.

Last year, Svenja published a photobook Take a Rest by Walking, created in collaboration with the artist Josephine Altmeyer. The book captures their journey through the Scottish Highlands, where they spent nights in bothies, reflecting on the idea of slowing down and finding clarity in nature. The book connects with Svenja’s themes of femininity, the cycle of life, vibrations, energy, rhythm, and the relationship between humans and nature.
