Jacqueline Shortland

Jacqueline’s studio on the fringes of the Cairngorm Mountains is surrounded by the geological wonders of Scotland’s ancient past.  She is constantly awed by her environment, challenged by the harsh conditions the weather can bring to her studio practice.

Her sculptures are an exploration of what it feels like to be human and are a psychological investigation of her experience of the world.  Reacting to events that influence our everyday lives, she allows these reactions to intuitively mould her beings, learning something about her own feelings along the way.

The artist: “Making sculpture is a deep dive into my innermost self.  It is a journey that begins with curiosity, and a need to trust that what will emerge needs to be seen & heard.  As they emerge, they whisper to me, truths I may have been ignoring, or possibly avoiding.

I can only hope they whisper to you too.”
