Battered by the ocean for a countless age, the coastline is a place where change and disruption are a constant way of life. Deep channels have been carved into granite cliffs and elsewhere stone and shells has been pounded into drifts of shifting sediment. Tides press forward and recede, returning in an ancient pattern of rise and fall. Today a little less land belongs to the sea, perhaps tomorrow will be more - an indefinite boundary has been established. Into this, a myriad of plants and creatures exist, but only the most resilient and resourceful survive. Each living thing has brilliantly adapted to its shifting circumstances: exuberant growth during long sunlit days - anchored strongholds during winter storms. Dormant at low tide - then reanimated by the rising sea. This ancient realm has existed for as long as the earth has met the sea, yet this place keeps alive the drive for life, for adaptability and the spectacle of life in all its manifestations.
