Speculative study developed in response to the unbuilt Scotswood Expo RIBA Competition, which sought new models for contemporary terraced housing within a major regeneration masterplan in Newcastle's West End. Drawing from the unrealised, we interrogate the terrace as a flexible urban framework shaped by spatial sequences, edges and shared thresholds. Through physical model, bays, intermediate thresholds and courtyards can recalibrate the relationship between dwelling, street and community, supporting adaptability, environmental performance and everyday sociability. Positioned between domestic scale and urban masterplan, the work reflects on what remains latent within the terrace: its capacity to support diverse lifestyles and construct a recognisable yet progressive housing form. As an unbuilt proposal, the project extends the discourse initiated by the Scotswood Expo toward future directions in housing design and reflects unrealised architectural ambition prevalent in the 2000s.
