‘The snow in early Spring’

There are a number of series in my work. This painting is one of the snow pictures which have come about through my fascination with how white is never actually ‘white’…and they are painted from direct observation.

In London this challenge began as I had two white cats who appeared in early pictures, including one of a white cat in an empty white bath - but then, in Edinburgh there was snow which I could paint looking out from where I live.

The light in these pictures varies, depending on time of day and month as it can snow from November through to March and each month is different - the pictures are similar and yet very different because of the changing of the light and the passing of time in the garden, and now climate change.

The former deep snow here is now a thing of the past, and some years there is none.
I want to paint it while I still can.
