Lucy Jones

Living and working in Edinburgh, Lucy’s current printmaking practice combines her love of aged, worn and imperfect surfaces with that of simple geometric shapes and lines. She’s looking for the sweet spot between order and chaos, connection and contrast, simple yet complex, using multiple layers of marks and colour.

Through using discarded Tetra Pak style cartons to make the printing plates rather than traditional more permanent materials, she’s able to work more intuitively and respond to results during the inking and printing process, embracing discoveries in accidents and imperfections. Through layering multiple plates and combining techniques such as collagraph, intaglio and old collage papers (Chine Collé), the results and possibilities from the press are always a gamble and a surprise. Due to the fragile nature of the plates and this intuitive process, each piece is different and unique. Any editions are small and varied.

Originally from mid Wales, Lucy gained a BA Hons in Visual Studies at Norwich School of Art. She moved to Edinburgh in 2012 and has been selected to show in the VAS, RSA, SSA and RSW Opens, had a number of solo exhibitions at private galleries, and completed numerous private and corporate commissions. She works from her own studio and Edinburgh Printmakers.
