Peter Davis is a prize-winning fine artist whose portraits capture contemporary life. Drawing inspiration from the people he meets and the places he visits, Peter's work reflects today’s societal narratives. He has exhibited widely, including the John Moores Painting Prize (2020) and the Herbert Smith Freehills Portrait Award (2024) at the National Portrait Gallery, London. He is an elected member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts (MAFA) and the Contemporary British Portrait Painters (CBPP), and his work is held in both public and private collections.
Stereo (diptych) explores the viewer’s unconscious bias through two juxtaposed portraits of the same woman. Using the semiotics of clothing, it looks at how what people wear can change how we perceive them. Particular attention is given to light and shade, creating strong tonal contrasts informed by the tradition of chiaroscuro, especially within religious painting.
