Jacqueline Marr is a Scottish contemporary artist, predominantly painting in oils. A master in her field, Jacqueline patiently produces a small number of paintings each year, a virtue that benefits her collectors. Emphasis is placed on mastery of her skill and perfectionist style, evident throughout the exquisite detail and sensitivity of every brushstroke. Influenced by the Old Masters, particularly Caravaggio and Rembrandt and their use of chiaroscuro, Jacqueline’s work demonstrates a deep understanding of light, tone and atmosphere.
Born in Falkirk in 1977, Jacqueline graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, Drawing and Painting from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, University of Dundee, in 1999. Jacqueline has since exhibited extensively throughout the UK and Europe, whilst undertaking private and public commissions. Awards include the Royal Scottish Academy John Kinross Scholarship, Florence, 1999 and the Royal Glasgow Institute David Cargill Award, 2016. Notable collections include the Royal Scottish Academy, Halifax/Bank of Scotland, Royal Bank of Scotland and Standard Chartered Bank, London/Dubai. Jacqueline’s artwork has featured in publications and on television, including Grand Designs, Channel 4 in 2006. Jacqueline was a heat finalist on Portrait Artist of the Year 2020, painting celebrity sitter Ricky Wilson, frontman of the Kaiser Chiefs.
‘Grace’ is an oil painting depicting a single feather suspended against a serene blue background. Minimal yet evocative, inviting quiet reflection on beauty and form, where simplicity reveals depth. Part of an ongoing exploration, influenced from the dramatic and reverent imagery of Michelangelo and Caravaggio, earlier work often featured winged figures and theatrical feathered masks. Over time, I began isolating the feather, allowing it to exist fully in its own right, becoming both subject and symbol. Its delicate structure evokes fragility, stillness, yet it serves as a quiet reminder of resilience and collective strength. Grace and strength, intertwined.
