In the Bright Darkness is part of a series reflecting on the grandeur of our ancient landscapes and our place within them. Made on the Beara Peninsula in the southwest of Ireland, the image is shaped by the shifting presence of light so characteristic of the Atlantic edge.
Illuminated by a break in fast-moving cloud, the mountain is almost unknowable in its scale, suspended between intimacy and immensity. The house – a quiet trace of human presence – lends perspective, revealing the landscape’s true vastness.
