Francis Convery RSA

Francis Convery RSA’s paintings have been characterised by scale, a colourist sensitivity and changeable form.

Convery studied Painting at Edinburgh College of Art (1979-1984) before joining the faculty at the college in the mid 1980s. He subsequently went on to teach at Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen, holding the position of Head of Painting between 1997 and 2011.

Convery's expressive attitude is embodied in the large colour saturated paintings that, over the years, have combined painting and collage, classical pictorial elements, influenced and informed by art history. Living and working in rural Angus, Convery's painting evoke the changability of the landscape in bold, gestural marks and expressive colours.
