The artist: A book can be sparked by many things: in this case antique book covers with their marbled endpapers, passed on to me by a friend, shouted Artist Book. Spare marbled paper provided material for collage, which in turn suggested globular marks and circles. There is a spontaneity and random excitement to creating images with resist, oil paint and a knife. The initial images are halved and rearranged into a sculptural, double-sided book. My background as a calligrapher and painter lends itself to expression within the book format.
