Viene Una Tormenta (A Storm is Coming) is my own take or deconstruction of Paul Gauguin’s 1889 Self-Portrait.

In the original, the bold yellow and red of Gauguin’s painting were to evocate both hellfire and the heat of creation, casting the artist in the role as both deceiver and redeemer. I am pensive, cautious, and to the best of my abilities, concise, in my self-portrait. Certainly, to deceive, for that is why I paint realistically, but to redeem also, to show you, the viewer, the result of my process and the hope in my face, for the storm will always come to an end,
