Taking inspiration from the great abstract and surreal masters of the 20th century (Miró, Davie and Hilton being the biggest influences) I work across a variety of mediums but have a primary focus on automatic painting and collage.
My Mind Garden Series began as automatic surreal drawings. These then began to grow in scale moving from paper to canvas. I carried on using this improvisational technique to form these naïve, playful and almost dream like images.
The Mind Garden title and my studio practice relates quite closely to my favourite Miró quote.
I think of my studio as a vegetable garden, where things follow their natural course. They grow, they ripen. You have to graft. You have to water.
