My sense of aesthetics has been informed by the thrill experienced from the dramatic balance and imbalance between the natural and the man-made. Expressing these ideas as considered feelings requires both the spontaneous use of colour and form, with reflective decision making: does the painting have contradictory forces of, for example, beauty and brutality, peace and war, hard and soft, near and far? Informed by objective chance, shapes and colours are composed to create tension. Spaces in the composition provide windows through which the viewer can respond individually, finding their own meanings within.
